Domains

buildingSMART domains are open groups of industry specialists who collaborate to improve the built environment through the development of open solutions and standards. Domains focus on a specific area or context. Responding to demands from the industry regarding problems or opportunities to be addressed, domains initiate projects. Projects are the primary means by which standards work is formally executed and operate in accordance with the buildingSMART Process.

Strong steering committees, drawn from a cross-section of the industry, manage the domains. Each domain develops a user-driven strategic roadmap that includes identified projects delivering the domain program for the benefit of their respective industries.

In addition to continuing communications throughout the year, room open forums take place at the buildingSMART Summits which are held twice a year.
